David Higgins

Golf was very much in the blood of Higgins, whose father Liam – who had a reputation for long-hitting off the tee – was a player on the PGA European Tour. The younger Higgins turned professional with an impressive amateur CV which included wins over no less than Pádraig Harrington in the finals of the South of Ireland and the Irish Amateur Close. After winning his full tour card at the Q-School for the 1996 season, Higgins embarked on the rollercoaster ride on tour as he spent the best part of the next decade playing between the main tour and the Challenge Tour. His best season came on the 2000 Challenge Tour where he won three times – finishing second on the end of season money list – but these days the Waterville golfer spends most of his time operating on the Irish PGA Region.
