John Cook

With no fewer than seven Top-10 finishes in the Majors in his career, Cook ranks as one of the best players of his generation not to have won one of the precious championships. Despite that fact, he enjoyed a hugely successful professional career which included wins in Brazil and Mexico as well as the United States. Born into a golfing household, his father Jim was a tournament director with the US Tour, Cook – a former US amateur champion – embarked on his life on tour in 1979 and has claimed 11 career wins on the PGA Tour and four on the Champions Tour. Cook, an extremely stylish player, had a number of extremely close calls in the majors, finishing runner-up to Nick Faldo in the 1992 British Open at Muirfield and he was also second behind Nick Price in the US PGA that same year, but is now very much an integral part of the Champions Tour. In fact, he won the 2007 AT&T tournament in San Antonia in just his second start, only 19 days after his 50th birthday . . . . has also earned a reputation as a golf course designer, including one co-design project in partnership with his sister Cathy Cook . . . . once did a fashion photo shoot as a youngster with the actress Bo Derek.
