Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson – all 6 feet 4 inches of him – is one of most exciting talents in professional golf, his successful defence of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on the Monterey Peninsula in February confirming the impact he has made in the sport since biding adieu to his amateur career when assisting the United States to victory over Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup at Royal County Down in 2007. He is a phenomenal hitter of the ball, averaging 308.3 yards on the US PGA Tour last season (which ranked him third longest on tour). “I’ve always hit the ball a long way. I think I get my length from the leverage on my downswing and the width of my lower body,” he says of the tremendous distance he achieves off the tee. His defence of the famed Pebble Beach title gave him his third career win as a professional and moved him into the top-25 in the world rankings... he uses the number 32 on his golf ball, a throwback to his basketball playing days as a teenager when he wore that number shirt. He retains a love of basketball and is proud of the fact that he can still dunk, even in his street shoes . . . . he also has a love of fishing and, whenever he gets the opportunity, Johnson indulges in his passion for wakeboarding, a sport which involves a motorboat pulling a flat board – akin to a surfboard – in its wake.
