Fred Funk

Much like a vintage wine, Fred Funk matured with age. The popular American accomplished the finest win of his career in The Players championship at TPC Sawgrass in 2005 – where his army of fans, affectionately known as ‘Funk’s Punks’, broke into a chorus of ‘Play That Funky Music’ – at the age of 48, making him the oldest winner of that flagship tournament on the PGA Tour. A former golf coach at the University of Maryland – where he worked from 1982 to 1988 – Funk won his PGA Tour card in 1989 and went on to represent the USA in the Ryder Cup (2004) and the Presidents Cup (2003, 2005). Funk has won two Majors on the Champions Tour (the Jeld-Wen Tradition in 2008 and the US Senior Open in 2009) but required surgery on a knee injury late in the season . . . . has topped more than $21 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour . . . . enjoys water-skiing in his spare time.
