Peter Lawrie

Peter Lawrie, a product of the sports scholarship system in UCD established by the late Dr Tony O’Neill, is regarded as one of the friendliest and most consistent players on the PGA European Tour. The Dubliner won the Irish Close championship in 1996 and turned professional the following year, but had to serve his apprenticeship on mini-tours in Florida and in Asia before finally winning his full European Tour card for the 2003 season through the Challenge Tour. He was named the Henry Cotton ‘rookie of the year’ in 2003, when he finished 56th on the money list, and he achieved a career high finish of 38th in 2008 in a season when he also made a breakthrough win on tour by claiming the Spanish Open . . . has amassed over €3.5 million in prize money . . . . once won a car for a hole-in-one in the 1999 Philippines Open.
