Trevor Immelman

As a young child growing up in South Africa, Trevor Immelman idolised the legendary Gary Player. In the 2008 US Masters at Augusta National, Immelman got to emulate him when he claimed a first Major title and, with it, a green jacket awarded to the Masters champion. What made Immelman's win all the more remarkable was that just four months previously he had undergone surgery after doctors discovered a tumour in his diaphragm. On the night before the final round of the Masters, Player had left a voicemail message on Immelman's phone. It said, "I know you're going to win!" Immelman - whose father, Johan, was a former commissioner of the Sunshine Tour in South Africa - started playing golf as a five-year-old and was a scratch player by the time he was 12.
